Alresford Toy
Museum

2008 Opening: Report and Photos.
Despite heavy drizzle and winter temperatures approximately
550 visitors turned up at the inaugural Toy Museum for a day in The Community
Centre, Alresford on Sunday 16th March.
Everyone was impressed by the superb quality and variety of displays including five railways layouts.
The railway layouts which were upstairs included Dave White's 11 x 5 Tri-ang Super 4 railway and Minic Motorway layout

complete with Model Land and Arkitex including Neil Bowsher's Ultra Modern Station.
Neil was running Bob Leggett's Tri-ang TT layout which was recently constructed on an original Tri-ang display board.
John and Briony Hollands were running Hornby clockwork MO trains on a 6 x 4 table. It certainly brought back loads of memories for those in their 50's.
Hornby Hobbies had kindly lent a superb 6 x 4 display layout and Adam Stratton was helping visitors operate the trains throughout the day.
Brian Kirwin with help from Eric Jones and his wife Sandra had Brian's excellent Dublo 3 rail layout
.Other exhibits (several by well known train collectors) included Jump Jockey
Pelham Puppets, Scalextric, Tri-ang Theatre
Lone Star toys (including 000), Board games, Tri-ang Minic ships
Airfix and Rosebudd Dolls.
Downstairs there were Steam Models
Dinky Army and Britains display including a barrage balloon, Jigsaws, Britains Farm
and floral garden.
Forts and a huge wooden Wild West town
Meccano
Dolls from 1885-1950 and a huge collection of 1950's toys including Tri-ang
Muffin the Mule and a large Lenny the Lion! Model Bus display, Sindy Dolls, Action Man
and Subbuteo. Bayko, Betta Bilda and Lego
A children's quiz was very popular with 50 entrants although it took the five attempts to find the first sheet with all correct answers
Refreshments were supplied by Fiona and Oli Leggett and Claire Whale
Visitors from the Watercress steam railway were able to take a vintage bus to the show.
